What kind of job can I get with a Cisco Certificate?

Question: What kind of job can I get with a Cisco Certificate?
I applied for the classes to get Cisco Certified in one year. I was just wondering, what kind of jobs can I get with this certificate, and what would I actually be doing in these jobs? Thanks!

Typically an entry-level certification like the CCNA will help you get your foot in the door of the IT world. A typical starting job might be at a help desk or a NOC (Network Operations Center). Job titles may be something like “network analyst” or “help desk technician”.

A corporate help desk position will help you get the exposure to various systems and corporate standards that you need to succeed in the long term. A NOC position is typically more focused on resolving issues with existing networks specifically, so a little less broad exposure but more focused.

I won’t lie, the first few years of your career probably will not be that glamorous; IT is definitely a job where everyone has to spend a few years “cutting their teeth”. But what you should spend that time focusing on is building up your credentials – certifications, experience, exposure… anything you can get – because the faster you catch on and upgrade yourself, the faster you can move up the ladder. And as you start moving up you will find that the hours become better and the pay goes up noticeably. It is very possible to make a lot of money and have a lot of fun in the industry, but the real trick is getting through those few first years… and again, my advice is to study, learn, and get certified.

Has anybody taken the Cisco Certified Network Associate through the Open University?

Question: Has anybody taken the Cisco Certified Network Associate through the Open University?
Just wondering if anybody has taken the CCNA course to prepare them for the exam through the open university and if they’d advise taking the Comptia Network + before undertaking this course? Any advice would be greatfully appreciated! Many Thanks! Robyn

Answer by Yikes!
I work for a Computer Training school. I haven’t taken the CCNA course but I know about it and sell it.
It isn’t a prereq to take Network+ because the Intro to Cisco Networking Technologies class is very similar.
If you were planning on obtaining your ICND then yes, I would say either take the CCNA intro course or Network+.
You should be fine. Just make sure that you take your exam at an authorized Prometric/Vue testing center.
Good luck!

Indeed.com is different than a lot of job search websites out there today. Instead of relaying only on jobs they post, Indeed.com goes out to major job search websites, classifieds, and other third party job posting sites to give you access to all of them at once. Indeed also allows you to narrow your search using simple point and click commands once you have a list of jobs.

How to Use Indeed.com to Find a Job
1
Go to the indeed.com website.

2
Type in a job title, a company, or keywords that describe the type of job for which you are looking to find. If you are using multiple words or phrase, separate each with a comma. Also, type in the city, state or zip code. Indeed defaults to looking for jobs within 25 miles of that location. Click on “Find Jobs”.

3
If you need to get more specific with your search, click the option for advanced search. Here you can include and exclude words or phrases from your search, looking for jobs within a particular company, and narrow your job hunt by salary range. In this area you can also narrow or widen the radius of your search. Click on “Find Jobs”.

4
Once your list of jobs appears, you can sort them by relevance or date.

5
If you have visited Indeed.com before, you can choose to view all jobs (default) or only view the new jobs since your last visit.

Narrowing Search Results on Indeed.com
1
On the left side of the results screen, you will see options for further narrowing your results. In parentheses you will see how many of the jobs your search yielded match that criteria.

2
Use the small black arrows to the left of each refinement to open or close that section to see or hide the options. Once you pick a refinement, you can further narrow your search by choosing an option from another section.

3
If you wish to remove a refinement, simply click the “undo” link
